DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions announced Taylor Decker’s new contract.

The previous day, agent Jonathan Feinsod confirmed that Decker had agreed to a six-year, $85 million deal including $37.5 million guaranteed.

“Right when we agreed to terms, I asked if I could call my mom really quickly so my parents could hear it from me. Because I didn’t want them to have to read it on ESPN,” Decker said. “My mom started immediately bawling, crying, and I started crying.”

He then had four minutes to get to a team meeting.

In four seasons on Detroit’s offensive line, Decker has appeared in 55 games and made a strong contribution after the Lions drafted him in the first round in 2016 out of Ohio State.

Decker says the contract is a big milestone, but his work isn't done and he feels he has a lot of good football ahead of him.

"I’m the youngest of five, and I’m sure for my siblings and our parents to see their baby boy and their baby brother accomplish something like that, I hope it was cool for them," he added.
