WXYZ — Getting drafted #1 overall comes with a set of expectations.
The fans, the media, the team, all have high hopes for players taken that high, as they should be what propels a franchise back into the winning ways.
But for 2018 top pick pitcher Casey Mize and 2020 top choice Spencer Torkelson, they're setting their own expectations, and ignoring the rest.
"Set goals, internal goals, short term, long term, and if you do that, you're going to make a lot of people happy," Mize said.
That is easier said than done.
With the top pick, comes the top rookie money, as well as the pressures of living up to that billing.
But these two stars in the making have a mindset unlike other people that have been in their position, humility.
"At the end of the day it's playing baseball, it's what I've been doing for my whole life and that's what I'm going to keep doing. See ball, hit ball and let people say whatever they want," Torkelson added.
