Clouds hang around overnight and through Wednesday. Temperatures drop into the mid teens to near 20° Wednesday morning and get stuck in the upper 20s in the afternoon.
A winter storm system moves in from the southwest Wednesday night. We'll start with a light bit of snow after sunset, with minimal accumulation. Warmer air moves in above cold air with this system, leading to a change over to sleet and freezing rain overnight. Widespread freezing rain will continue south of M-59 through the early morning hours of Thursday, with around 0.10" or ice expected. Localized amounts near 0.2" are possible, mainly through Lenawee and Monroe counties. North of M-59 can expect a mix of sleet and snow, with 1" possible north of I 69. The biggest concern is for icy roads Thursday morning.
Showers quickly end by mid morning Thursday and temperatures will climb into the upper 30s by the afternoon. Travel conditions will improve throughout the day.
Another storm system is on the way for the upcoming weekend that will likely bring a wintry mix again to Metro Detroit.
