An arrest has been made in the shooting and killing of a Clinton Township teenager at a graduation party.

Roseville Police say the suspect is a 20-year-old man from Eastpointe.

According to the Roseville police chief, the party was being held at a home on Calahan near 12 Mile.

The incident happened Saturday just before midnight.

A group of people crashed the party, and were later asked to leave.

Between seven and eight people later returned with a weapon, and at least one person began to fire into the crowd of people that were still attending the party.

“I’m still just trying to wrap my head around it,” said John Guerra, a friend of the victim who was meant to be attending the party.

“When I first heard about it I was scared and I didn’t believe it at first,” said Guerra. “I felt a little empty inside — everyone’s trying to grasp it.”

The teenager, who is not being named by police, was 18 years old. His friends described him as a hard worker, who always made people laugh. He graduated recently, but the party was not being thrown for him.

It appears that when the group of young men returned to the party that a physical fight took place, followed by someone firing five shots into the crowd. It’s not known what was said leading up to the shooting.

Police are now working through a number of leads, but are looking for specific information about who may have been the shooter.

According to the initial investigation, it appears that two cars were involved when the group returned to the party: one vehicle was a silver-colored Pontiac G6 which has been impounded by the Roseville Police Department, a second was a dark colored vehicle without too much of a description; possibly blue or black in color.

As for friends of the victim, they tell 7 Action News that they’re still trying to work through the details of what happened. Guerra, who has been talking with a number of people that went to the party, said one of his friends is especially shaken up because he was holding the young man after he was shot.

“I just seen him (the victim) two weeks ago,” said Guerra. “It’s really weird thinking about the last words you talked to someone and you didn’t think those would be the last words, you know?”
