12K drivers affected by Detroit-Windsor Tunnel 10-day closure in October

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is closing for 10 days at the end of October as they embark on the final phase of a $21.6 million renovation project, affecting the up to 12,000 drivers who use the tunnel daily.

The tunnel will close completely from 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 through 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. Renovations have already included masonry and electrical work to replace the concrete ceiling and other infrastructure improvements.

In August, the tunnel said it will close every weeknight from November through June for the renovations. Those plans are still on.

From Oct. 30 through Nov. 22, the tunnel will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday - Thursday.

The tunnel will be open Nov. 23-26 for the Thanksgiving holiday with no restrictions.

Then, it will close again Sunday nights and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. from Nov. 27 through Dec. 23.

It will open up for Christmas with no restrictions from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. From Jan. 2 through mid-June, it will be closed 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The renvoations will be complete by mid-June.
