Davontae Sanford, the man wrongfully convicted in the murder of four people, was shot Saturday night and rushed to the hospital, sources said.

Sources tell 7 Action News the shooting happened at the King Homes housing complex on the 2000 block of East Lafayette Street in Detroit.

He was struck in the leg after trying to run from the suspected shooter, sources added.

Hospital officials confirmed Sanford was in the emergency room in unknown condition.

Sanford was released from jail last year after serving nine years in prison. He was wrongfully convicted of killing four people at age 14.

A judge ordered Sanford's release after a professional hit man later took responsibility for the crime. He was 23 years old at the time of his release.
