A Detroit police officer serving on Vice President Joe Biden's motorcade has been injured in an accident on Mt. Elliott and Medbury, just south of I-94.

The officer was assisted by EMS crews at the scene and then transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

The Vice President is visiting Detroit for a speech expected this afternoon about the city's public transportation system.

A witness at the scene of the accident told 7 Action News that the the officer was going around the motorcade to stop traffic on Medbury when he lost control of his motorcycle and slid.

The motorcade was traveling from the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County. His plane landed just before 2 p.m. The Vice President arrived at the Detroit Department of Transportation at about 2:45 p.m.

Last October, a Detroit Police Department motorcycle that was assigned to the motorcade protecting First Lady Michelle Obama was involved in a crash on I-94 at Harper.

Just last Friday, a New York Police Department motorcycle officer was in an accident while escorting Biden's motorcade to LaGuardia Airport, the Associated Press reported.

Biden later invited the injured New York City officer to visit him in Washington, D.C.
