There’s something to be said about building your own company or working at one in its infancy.

It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears -- and now one film is exploring the startup life, set right here in Detroit.

Generation Startup follows the journey of six young professionals as they dive headfirst into the business world. It reportedly shows the good and the bad, the successes and failures.

The film takes place around the same time Detroit was headed into bankruptcy — and follows the group for 17 months.

One of people highlighted in the film is Kate Catlin. She works at Detroit Labs and started a mentorship program for women in tech.

You may also recognize Banza, one of the startups featured in the documentary. The team makes chickpea pasta.

Generation Startup is scheduled to debut in Detroit this Friday at the Detroit Film Theatre at 7 p.m.

It’s part of the Freep Film Fest monthly screening program.

There are additional showings, too. Check times and purchase tickets here.
