An investigation is underway after a home invasion that ended with a suspect shot in Redford Township.

The homeowner's infant child and nanny were in the home around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday evening.

"He went in, my nanny was sitting there with the baby," said the homeowner's girlfriend, who did not want to give her name.

The suspect told the nanny he wanted property from the home.

During the invasion, the male homeowner returned to the residence and opened fire on the suspect while he was running away.

Neighbor John Kabacinski said he heard screaming first, "then about 10 shots."

His girlfriend drove off with their other children for help.

"I was just trying to get out of here because I saw everything going on inside the house, the rumbling," she said.

The suspect was arrested and is being treated at the hospital for non life threatening injuries.

Police say the homeowner and suspect do not know each other. The residents of the home were not injured.
