The 61-year-old Macomb Township woman accused of purposely shooting and killing her husband will be in court today for a formal arraignment.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting that happened last week near the 20200 block of Nicol Creek Drive in Macomb Township.

A 911 call came in around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Julie Chimelak called and said she accidentally shot her husband.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found the victim, 75-year-old Ronald Chimelak, lying on his back with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the chest. His wife was attempting to give him CPR, and deputies stepped in and attempted life-saving techniques. Ronald Chimelak was transferred to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Julia was interviewed several times and was eventually arrested. She is now facing second degree murder charges.
