Man shot while sitting in custom car at Detroit gas station

A 35-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the forehead while sitting in a custom car on Detroit's east side Saturday night, police said.

It happened at a gas station at about 9 p.m. on the 9700 block of Van Dyke Avenue, near Grinnell Avenue.

Police said the victim was sitting in the driver's seat of a 1969 custom Oldsmobile when an unknown suspect opened fire.

A 43-year-old passenger was also inside the car at the time of the shooting, but was not injured.

A 15-year-old boy was pumping gas into the vehicle and witnessed the shooting, police said.
