While thousands are leaving Florida one couple was headed there saying their family has decided to ride out Hurricane Irma and they’re not able to do it alone.

"I'm scared we're not up to this, it's not what I want to do but we support," says Michelle Kelley.

John Hendricks volunteers with the Red Cross. He says they’re sending him to Orlando.

"It's a heartwarming thing. Most of us have a heart for it we enjoy helping people. Right now we have 860 people out in Florida on standby for when it hits land," Hendricks says.

Others were seen flying in from Florida. Blake Wright attends Concordia University in Ann Arbor, he’s been doing an internship in Florida at a church.

During his internship he helped the church make a plan for those staying behind.

"It was the first time that I saw a gas station without gas. That was something that really threw me for a loop. I've never experienced anything like that before. Also all of the grocery stores were out of bottled water, every single one," Wright says.

Wright will go back to Florida later this month to help.
