A blue spruce from Sault Ste. Marie will travel south to Lansing this month to become Michigan's 31st official Christmas tree.
The tree, which was chosen by staff from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, is expected to arrive at the Capitol around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 29.
The tree is just under 50 feet tall. It's being donated by Al Farrish. The tree is growing in his yard on East Ninth Avenue about two miles south of the St. Mary's River and Soo Locks. This is the 22nd time the official tree has been selected from the Upper Peninsula.
"It's a beautiful tree," said DTMB Christmas tree crew member Heath Miller. "it's very nicely shaped with boughs that should make it easy to decorate."
The tree will be harvested at no cost to the owners on Thursday, October 27.
The tree lighting will take place in Lansing on Friday, November 18 as part of the Silver Bells in the City celebration.
