A driver was knocked unconscious after a piece of concrete hit her car mid-drive early Wednesday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

Police say the accident happened on I-696 near Hoover in Warren around 8:40 a.m.

The concrete reportedly flew up from the road, busted through her windshield, knocked her out and caused her to strike another vehicle.

Police say the other driver was uninjured in the crash and the 46 year old Grosse Pointe woman is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

MDOT, which oversees that stretch of road says routine repairs are done, but more funds are needed to permanently fix the road.
