A fire ravaged building is so dangerous, it's putting school kids in harms way.

Neinas Elementary School is the pride and joy of one Southwest Detroit neighborhood. It's a school with passionate parents who get involved and care.

As the elementary school's parent ambassador, Laura Mejia has been leading the fight to get the vacant, abandoned building directly across the street torn down.

"We've done a petition, gone to city leaders, community leaders and it's still sitting here." said Mejia. "I've called the mayor's office and was told it would be made a top priority since it was in front of the school. That was 3 1/2 months ago, and I've never heard another word."

Frustrated, Mejia turned to 7 Action News Reporter Ronnie Dahl for help.
