Two more people charged in metro Detroit Female Genital Mutilation case

Two more people have been indicted in the Female Genital Mutilation cases in Detroit and they are both parents - mothers who allegedly "caused" this to be performed on their own daughters. 

Court documents also show two medical doctors previously charged allegedly performed FGM on their own daughters. 

The new charges are against Farida Arif and Fatema Dahodwala both of Oakland County. Also charged in the new indictment are Tahera Shafiq who allegedly assisted in the procedures. 

Dr. Jumana Nagarwala was previously charged with performing FGM and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar is charged with allowing his Livonia clinic to be used. His wife Farida is also charged with assisting. 

The charges include Conspiracy, performing FGM, Obstruction and making False Statements.

The new court documents show FGM was performed between May of 2015 and February of this year on 6 girls now age 7 to 12.

All charged are members of a Muslim community known as the Dahwoodi Bohra based in India and they are members of a Mosque in Farmington Hills.
