It's been nearly a year since a Mt. Clemens woman was found laying naked and lifeless outside her boyfriend’s home.

Today there is still no trial date set for the case, the man originally arrested in connection with her death is now free.

Cheryl Simmons says for the past year her life has been nothing but roller coaster of emotion.

"Big ups and downs, huge ups and downs. Depression, I've had two minor strokes.”

It began when her daughter, 27-year-old Julie Williamson, was found laying in the yard outside a Mt. Clemens home.

First responders were called there by her boyfriend in the early morning hours of July 10, 2016.

They report she was naked and nearly dead.

At the hospital she was put on life support.

Doctors told the family they didn't know if Julie was going to survive.

"Maybe, maybe not. Maybe, maybe not. It was kind of ups and downs. They were telling us they had no pupil dilation, which meant no brain activity,” said Simmons.

The mother of two never regained consciousness and her family had to make the tough decision to take her off life support.

Attorney’s with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s office believe she was injured after being hit by a car, and dragged for several feet.

"I'm talking massive, massive road burn. I mean horrible, she was swollen,” said Simmons.

After the funeral the roller coaster began again, this time in court.

Julie's boyfriend of four months, Michael Rosenmund, was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing death and homicide-manslaughter with a motor vehicle.

Months later a judge dismissed the case, saying there wasn't enough evidence to move forward with trial.

Prosecutors appealed that decision.

Cheryl and her family are now left waiting again, for a second judge to make a ruling.

"I'm upset, I'm upset because I feel like she was failed by the justice system at this point."

The Macomb Co. Prosecutor's office says they do not have a timeline for when the appellate court ruling will be issued.

While they wait this family is holding a memorial ceremony on July 16th, in front of the courthouse where they plan to have a balloon release. It begins at 3pm.
