Royal Oak Police tried to pull over a 20-year-old man from Pontiac because they couldn’t read his license plate.  He then took off at speeds more than 90-miles-per-hour, eventually losing control in a family’s yard on Catalpa Street near Coolidge Highway in Berkley.

Kevin Mack heard the commotion outside around eight in the evening on Monday.

“We heard the sirens. We heard cars going fast on the pavement, so I looked outside to see what was going on. I just saw this car flying across my lawn and then hit my F150 really hard,” said Mack.

He then saw a man run out of the car, trying to get away from police. Mack rushed to lock his doors and sent his children upstairs.

Berkley Police say they later arrested the driver near 12 mile and Coolidge. Turns out he had several outstanding warrants, which may explain why he tried to avoid police. He was with a passenger in the car who had at first stayed at the scene.
