Ann Arbor City Council has decided to sell an important part of the city's center that would make way for a massive high rise.

A Chicago based developer wants to build a massive high rise with 360 housing units and more than 100 units for a hotel on the same grounds.

Right now at the proposed site there is a four story underground parking structure.

In order for this multi-million dollar plan to be developed - 8 of 11 council members needed to be on board.

Leading up to tonight’s very important city council meeting - city officials heard two very different views of whether or not to give the project the go ahead.

Opponents say the site should be reserved for the community and say they support a park that everyone should be able to enjoy.

Those in favor of the plan point out the plan includes a very large plaza that could very well accomplish that. Supporters also say the project could add some much needed revenue to the city’s general fund to help better maintain the city’s infrastructure, as well as provide something the city needs more of - affordable housing.
