At 6:00 p.m. on July 18, the Midland County Sheriff's office responded to a report that a plane had crashed on a grass landing strip.

The pilot of the aircraft was 79-year-old Ronald Lee Schultz from Jasper Township.

Schultz was flying his 1959 Piper Pacer single engine plane westbound. While coming in for a landing, his landing gear struck the top of some corn that was east of the landing strip.

The plane wheels struck South Castor Road, and after entering the landing strip, the nose tipped down and struck the ground causing the plane to flip on it's top.

Schultz was treated and released at the scene with a laceration to his finger, and a bump on his head.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
