WXYZ has kicked off the holiday season with the 13th annual Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius Park in the heart of downtown Detroit.

You can rewatch out special in the video player below

WXYZ/WMYD 7 Action News anchors Stephen Clark, Carolyn Clifford, and Glenda Lewis will host the program. It will feature a 60-foot Michigan-grown Norway spruce wrapped with more than 19,000 multi-colored lights.

The show will include live entertainment from Campus Martius Park, including a performance by legendary Grammy-winning singer Aaron Neville, of the famous first family of funk, the Neville Brothers. Detroit’s hometown skating heroes, U.S. ice dancing champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White, will heat up the rink with a special holiday performance. Davis and White are the first American ice dancers to win the Olympic ice dancing gold medal.

“This is a spectacular holiday tradition that shines a light on the revitalization of downtown Detroit and brings together families from across our region,” said Mike Murri, WXYZ/WMYD vice president and general manager. “WXYZ is proud to share this event with our viewers, and help families create memories that will last a lifetime.”

WXYZ will stream the special live on all digital platforms and will be on Facebook Live for the big tree lighting event. Viewers are encouraged to send their special photos to sendit@wxyz.com. WXYZ will use these photos on air and online in a special holiday photo gallery.

Coverage Friday on 7 Action News will begin with “The Now” at 4 p.m. and continue with 7 Action News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Festivities in the park will include the Salvation Army kettle lighting, horse-drawn carriage rides and photos with Santa. Local musical groups and Detroit-area skating clubs also will provide entertainment.
