Superintendents across metro Detroit weighing decision to close schools

For many school districts in Michigan, the wind chill and temperatures are more likely to cause schools to close for the day than how much snow is on the ground.

So far, almost 500 schools are closed, including all of Detroit Public Schools.

With more snow on the way we expect that number to rise over the next several hours.

Other factors include a city’s infrastructure - like its ability to remove snow off the ground or its ability to transport students safely.

But most school superintendents making the choice say ideally that decision is made as early as possible.
