REDFORD (WXYZ) — "It just feels wrong," said Lisa Johnson, the mother of Eddie Wyatt III whose death from multiple stab wounds has been ruled a suicide.
Eddie died Thursday from an estimated five to six wounds that the Oakland County Medical Examiner believes he inflicted on himself.
It happened in Redford but because Eddie was pronounced dead at a hospital in Farmington Hills, his autopsy was not handled in Wayne County.
Eddie's girlfriend told Redford Police that he stabbed himself multiple times and then asked her to drive him to his aunt's house, which is located nearby.
When Eddie's girlfriend arrived with him bleeding at his aunt's house, she banged on the front door and then reportedly returned to her car and began pulling Eddie out.
"I asked her what the hell is going on here," said Loraine Haley when she saw the lifeless body of her 31-year-old nephew.
Eddie's girlfriend, who had her Great Dane in the car with them, said Eddie began stabbing himself after she told him she was breaking up with him, according to Loraine.
"I told her she's telling a damn lie," said Jayla Russell, one of Eddie's sisters. "My brother would not take his own life."
Action News called the medical examiner to ask what was it about Eddie Wyatt's multiple stab wounds that would lead them to rule his death a suicide, but we were told the doctor was not available.
"It doesn't even make sense," said Kameal Thomas who is also Eddie's sister.
The family met with detectives from the Redford Police Department Tuesday.
Police told 7 Action News that they do not suspect foul play, but they said their investigation remains open.
"This is not a witch hunt for anyone," Jayla said. "We just know he didn't do it and we want to know who did."
