Famous musicians are teaming up for a special concert to honor the late Detroit Jazz Great Marcus Belgrave. His widow Joan is leading a mission to establish a scholarship fund in her husband's name. Play the video to watch her interview with Joanne Purtan on 7 Action News at Noon.
The concert takes place Thursday night March 10th at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Organizers say the event will establish a scholarship fund in Marcus' name. Additionally, the concert will feature famous musicians who Marcus mentored.

She says: The Marcus Belgrave Scholarship fund will continue the fifty-year legacy of
Marcus Belgrave’s mentorship and support of young musicians.
Through Jazz Development Workshop, Ms. Belgrave hopes to continue this legacy of supporting
young musicians in the form of sponsorship to summer jazz camps, workshops, and practical on the
job performance training.
The concert will open with the Jazz Development Workshop youth ensemble (the last group of
students Mr. Belgrave mentored), including son, Alto Saxophonist, Kasan Belgrave.
The Concert will feature Mrs. Belgrave, with a few of the late jazz master’s prominent protégé’s,
including Guggenheim fellow, pianist- Geri Allen, Drummer- Karriem Riggins (Common, Diana Krall,
Paul McCartney), Saxophonist- James Carter, Trumpeter, Rayse Biggs (KEM), Trumpeter -Dwight
Adams (Stevie Wonder), New York Trumpeter- Greg Glassman, Bassist-Marion Hayden and more.
