The story focuses on Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in that city of infinite possibilities. When fate interferes with her carefully designed plans, Elizabeth's life splits into two parallel paths. IF/THEN follows both stories simultaneously as this modern woman (Liz & Beth) faces the intersection of choice and chance.

The show is written by Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), and directed by Michael Greif. They comprise the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, Next to Normal.
