Oktoberfest Celebration at one of Detroit's oldest Catholic Churches

One of Detroit's oldest Catholic Churches is getting ready to hold a weekend bash for Oktoberfest.  The Fun Begins Saturday at Noon at St. Joseph Church.  It's located at 1828 Jay Street, near Eastern Market. The weekend will be loaded with food, music and fun for families. It begins Saturday  with a German mass at 4pm - featuring music by St. Joseph Mens Schoa. The immigrant sons German band and Notre Dame Prep Jazz band will play as well. 

SATURDAY 7pm HEADLINER:  "The Liras"

The longtime local band "The Liras" will headline Saturday night's event by singing "Oldies" at 7pm.  The two remaining "original band members" are Michael Soranno and Sonny Cingolani. They formed the Liras in the 60s in Soranno's mother's basement. The rest of the Liras include Soranno's two daughters and one son and a longtime family friend.

Sunday's schedule includes: a latin mass, German bands and dancers, and much more.

The Cooking

German dinner with roast chicken, authentic german sausages, sides and deserts, and seasonal Oktoberfest beer.
