The Wayne County Lightfest kicks off Tuesday night in Westland’s Merriman Hollow Park.
The first of many events is the 8K Lightfest Run/Walk at 7 p.m. The first 1,700 people to register will receive a long sleeve t-shirt and glow-in-the-dark medal.
Registration for the race begins at 5:30 p.m. Hines Drive will be closed for the run and shuttle buses will be provided for participants.
Lightfest is open Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. -- and on Saturdays and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hines Drive closes one hour before the show begins each night.
Lightfest is the largest holiday light show in the Midwest. There are more than 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights.
The show is open through December 31, but is closed on Christmas Day. The cost is $5 per carload.
The park is at 7651 Merriman Road. Visitors should enter on Merriman Road between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Ave.
