(WXYZ) — The state of Michigan said it saw two traffic fatalities over the Christmas holiday in 2019, marking one of the least-deadly holidays on Michigan roads in more than 40 years.

According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, neither of the two fatalities involved alcohol, and it was tied for the second-lowest number of fatalities since 1972. There were also two in 2006 and 0 in 2002.

The Christmas holiday period runs from Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. through Dec. 25 at 11:59 p.m.

Last year, the MOHSP said there were 11 fatal crashes and 13 fatalities, with eight of the crashes involving alcohol.
