Under Armour is following in Nike's footsteps and opening a store in Downtown Detroit.

The company's chairman and CEO Kevin Plank made the exciting announcement at a charity event in Detroit last night alongside Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert.

Gilbert confirmed the news on Twitter saying, "Welcome @UnderArmour to downtown DET. 'Brand House' store will be great to add to Woodward Ave retail corridor in 2017."

According to Crain's Detroit, the 17,000-square-foot store will be located at 1201 Woodward Avenue, just down the street from Nike's new location.

Right now Under Armour has outlet locations in Howell and Birch Run. The store in Downtown Detroit will be a "Brand House" location.

It's expected to open its doors to the public sometime in spring of next year.

Bedrock and Under Armour released this joint statement:

"Under Armour is excited to open its first Brand House in downtown Detroit in the spring of 2017 at 1201 Woodward Ave. Detroit is an ideal location for Under Armour as an icon of Americana. Just like Under Armour’s hometown of Baltimore, Detroit is currently experiencing an unprecedented wave of momentum, and we can’t wait to be part of their exciting success story.”
