A woman in Hamtramck asked 7 Action News for help this morning. She saw a down live power line putting not only her home, but children walking to nearby schools in danger.
Lisa Whitlock says wind blew a branch into a line, knocking it down several days ago. It landed across her garage and fence. She hasn’t slept well. She is worried her house will catch fire as she rests.
“I am scared. I don’t want my house to catch on fire. It is all I got,” said Whitlock.
She is also worried for the children in the neighborhood. Many walk by her house on the way to Kosciusko Middle School or Dickinson West Elementary.
“My cousin was right next to the fence and felt a huge shock,” said Marian, a student who walks past Whitlock’s house. “She got really scared and she ran back to me.”
That happened the day prior. The line was still down as she tried to make her way to school today.
Seven Action News reached out to DTE Energy to make sure they were aware. A short time later a crew came to take care of the down live wire.
The wind storm on Wednesday knocked down thousands of power lines. Crews are still working to repair them all. Parents should remind their children of the dangers of down power lines.
