DETROIT (WXYZ) — "It's still unreal," said Ethel Garrett about the murder of her 18-year-old grandson, Latae'o Garrett, who was shot and killed Saturday night by a man police said wanted his Cartier sunglasses.

The fatal shooting happened Saturday night around 11:20 p.m. at the Valero gas station on East Seven Mile Road at Outer Drive on Detroit's east side.

On Tuesday, Detroit police announced the arrest of the suspected shooter, but investigators are still trying to locate three others they consider to be persons of interest.

"Just get to talking," said Adonis Hollins, the victim's oldest brother. "Y'all know this is a little boy had his whole life ahead of him."

"It's sad because he had his whole life ahead of him," said Ethel, who also told 7 Action News that her daughter, Latae'o's mother, is distraught. "That's the thing, when I say a good child, a good child."

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help raise money for the funeral of the teen who planned on going to college soon to study business management. Click here to donate.

As of Tuesday night, Detroit police said there have been 85 criminal homicides in 2019. We're told there were 94 criminal homicides in the same period of 2018.

Police said many of the killings stemmed from unresolved disputes, domestic cases and connections to gang and drug activity.
