SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ask almost any mom.

The pressure of trying to raise your kids well with everything else on your plate – while also pursuing your dreams – is enough to make you want to collapse in the carpool lane, right?!

Some metro Detroit moms decided to get real about how you can align your mission as a mother with your personal goals and ambitions.

“Welcome to the Mother Honestly Podcast. This is your host: Blessing Adesiyan,” is the open to the podcast now in its second season with a fan base around the globe.

The collaboration began in July of 2018, the brainchild of two working moms here in metro Detroit.

Chemical engineer and married mother of two, Blessing Adesiyan, and project manager and married mom to a son, Kristen Hall.

“Blessing and I were fortunate enough to meet when I had my six-month-old at corporate jobs. So, Mother Honestly spun out of our daily conversations in the office and her conversations with other women about why we needed to take a better approach to addressing motherhood and those women who wanted to remain ambitious in their careers as well as thrive in motherhood,” explained Hall.

Their first topics they chose to address on their podcast? “Redefining Success in Motherhood” and “The Power of Maternal Well-being.”

“One thing we love about, I love about Mother Honestly is the fact that we can have honest and real conversations about how people are approaching their lives and motherhood,” said Adesiyan in one podcast.

And that message is resonating.

More than 11,000 downloads and nearly 50,000 listens for the Mother Honestly podcast…and counting.

Adesiyan fields calls from people all over the country, and they’ve received comments from as far away as Africa and Australia.

“Mothers who are already busy can listen to the podcast on-demand and in the school pick-up line, folding clothes,” said Robin Kinnie. She owns Motor City Woman studios where the podcast is produced.

As a business woman and married mother of three, Kinnie gets a lot out of listening to the podcast.

“It kind of goes behind the veil of these very high achieving mothers, and they’re going through the same struggles that I’m going through. And I get to hear how they’re overcoming and how they’re navigating,” said Kinnie.

Some 30 episodes after Mother Honestly began, they’ve touched on everything from work-life alignment to managing your mental health, negotiating flexible work schedules to asking for that raise you’ve been wanting.

One emotion-filled podcast dealt with one woman’s journey through miscarriages and surrogacy.

Guests don’t hold back and listeners give feedback.

Bottom line is raising children is an incredibly hard, rewarding job, but moms should remember cultivating yourself is still important, too.

“How do you find that work life integration where you can be very successful whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, an entrepreneur, or in the corporate world?” said Hall underscoring the burning question they’re trying to answer each week.

As we cover this story, congratulations go out to Blessing Adesiyan. On September 17, 2019, she had her third baby!
