It’s all hands on-deck at Auburn Hills based K. Carroll Accessories. Their new “Universal Cell Carrier” was featured this morning on Good Morning America’s Deals and Steals.
“We’re really excited,” says owner Kelly Burgin. “We’ve never had anything for customers who don’t have Apple products, so now we have a case that’s going to fit everybody’s cell phone, whether you’re still carrying the iPhone 5 or you have the large Android."
Expandable elastic makes for a snug fit for both iPhones and Androids.
I’ve featured Kelly and her company, which is run entirely by women, before. They sell affordable, fashionable handbags and cell phone cases. They ship them all over the country from their Auburn Hills warehouse.
Their sales have skyrocketed over the last year, thanks in part to Oprah’s touch. One of their other cell phone cases, that also hold credit cards and cash, was profiled as one of “Oprah’s Favorite Things” last holiday season, and ABC's The View. Another case was sold on HSN. And one of their reversible bags was profiled last Fall in another GMA’s Deals and Steals segment.
I asked Kelly what the national coverage has meant for her business.
“They have been amazing, the coverage we’ve been getting, the customer base… We were a wholesale business and honestly retail was not something that we did a lot with,” she says, “so we have truly doubled. Our wholesale business is still incredible strong, because we’ve been able to build the brand, and now we have a retail presence with people coming to our website, buying our products on Amazon, seeing us on The View and Good Morning America.
Kelly has partnered with a local monogramming company so you can add a personal touch to the products. And speaking of personal, check out the Mini & Me line. A bigger bag for mom, a matching, smaller version for their little lady.
Kelly says her team of nine women are always thinking ahead.
“We’ve done really well with the cell carriers, but we’re always trying to think about what’s next.”
