Business is heating up right along with the caramel, in the Troy commercial kitchen that’s home to Kelly’s Karamels. Owner Kelly Martin and her team are getting ready to take their caramels to QVC on October 26th.
“So as you can imagine we’ve been busier than a one armed paper hanger around here getting ready,” Kelly says.
I first interviewed Kelly for a Mom's a Genius story in June of 2014.Her personality, with catchy phrases like that one, caught the attention of the son-in-law of one of her loyal customers. He works with entrepreneurs to help them get on QVC. When he shared the story with the home shopping giant, and when they tasted her caramels, the wheels were set in motion. And now, on the afternoon of October 26th, Kelly will have eight minutes to tell the story of how she turned her grandmother’s recipe into a successful business, with her son working by her side. She's over the moon about the opportunity.
“On a national platform, to say here we are in little troy, Michigan. This is what we do, we do it well, we do one thing, but we do it very well,” Kelly explains.
While Kelly’s Karamels regularly come in different size boxes, Kelly has designed an exclusive 60 piece box for QVC, which will include 14 traditional vanilla caramels, and 8 of her other flavors: sea salt, pecan, cherry, cocoa and coffee.
The boxes will cost $39.99 and the goal set for Kelly is to sell 2000 of them.
“We hope that it’s a stepping stone to other things, and whether it’s a better closer relationship with QVC, doing other things for them down the road or other things that might pop open.”
Good luck, Kelly!
