Springtime means Spring cleaning, and for very good reason. Some of the things you have in your home are best tossed out, but keep in mind there are proper ways to dispose of some of these things.

The savings website WiseBread suggests you get rid or:

-expired medicine: it loses its effectiveness a few months after the date on the bottle. (it’s best to take old prescription medication to your local police agency for proper disposal)

-old cosmetics, more than 1 year old in most cases.

-spices more than 4 years old.

                -old magazines

-bills and receipts more than a year old (those should be shredded to prevent identity theft)

                -unused coffee mugs

                -old greeting cards...unless sentimental

-opened cans of paint...it dries out and won’t match your wall anymore. (there are proper ways to dispose of old paint…Lowe’s offers some good advice on how to store and dispose of paint properly
