The Food and Drug Administration announced on Thursday Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling over 100,000 Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce cans of chunk light tuna in oil and water.
According to the FDA, the recall is because the product may have been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction. That could result in contamination of the product and life-threatening illness if consumed.
The specific products recalled are:
Chicken of the Sea 5-oz. Canned Chunk Light Tuna in Oil - UPC: 0 4800000195 5, best by date of 2/10/19.
Chicken of the Sea 5-oz. Canned Chunk Light Tuna in Water - UPC: 0 4800000245 7, best by dates of: 2/18/19, 2/22/19, 2/23/19, 2/25/19, 3/2/19 and 3/3/19.
No other codes or other Chicken of the Sea products are affected by the recall.
Consumers who have the affected product can return it to the store where they bought it for a full refund.
