ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks (A subsidiary of ArcelorMittal) is opening a new manufacturing operation in Detroit, Michigan to produce new laser-welded blanks for the automotive industry. This project marks ArcelorMittal’s first wholly-owned manufacturing operation in Michigan and the tenth Tailored Blanks facility in North America.

Utilizing state of the art robotics and laser welding technology, ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks is able to seamlessly join Advanced High Strength Steels in order to cost effectively reduce the weight of vehicles, improve safety performance and ensure the highest material utilization in the manufacturing of automotive parts.

During its first year of operation, ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks Detroit will occupy less than half of the available building space, providing a sustainable location that can accommodate the anticipated market growth expected over the next five years. The new facility will create approximately 80 new jobs in year one as they prepare for operational commencement in January 2018 and a total of 120 new jobs over the next 5 years.

Open positions:

· Manufacturing Technicians (approx..15 open positions)

Operate fully automated manufacturing machinery, responsible for monitoring and inspecting the quality of all products in the assigned work area. Making minor adjustments to machinery ensuring consistent quality of goods. Working in a fast paced environment achieving stringent production requirements.

 

· Education - Grade 12 or GED required.

· Experience 0 - 5 years

· Technical Skills

 Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a must.

 Experience utilizing visual work instructions to independently complete a task.

 General mathematical skills is required.

 Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

 Previous exposure to robotic or automated manufacturing, with experience homing and troubleshooting robotic issues is a must.

 Possesses a strong mechanical and technical aptitude.

 Knowledge or exposure to welding is considered an asset.

 Exposure to ISO14001 and TS16949 standards is considered an asset.

 Experience participating in World Class Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives is considered an asset."
