WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — Both occupants of a vehicle that was involved in a single-car crash in West Bloomfield Wednesday morning have died.

The driver of the vehicle, a man, died shortly after the crash. The female passenger, a 24-year-old from Warren, died after being placed on life support later in the day.

West Bloomfield police released a statement Wednesday afternoon, correcting an earlier released statement that said the female passenger had died. The passenger had actually been placed on life support. Curtis Lawson, deputy chief of the West Bloomfield Police Department, identified the police report as a misstep and released the below statement.

We have just received word from the hospital that the female who we reported to you as deceased is in fact still on life support. The information we originally put out to you was information directly from a family member who told us she had just “passed away”. This is obviously an extremely unfortunate misstep on our part not to have confirmed this information and one that will not happen again.

By Wednesday evening, the family confirmed with Action News that the female passenger, 24-year-old Jazmene Glynn, had died.

Around 4 a.m. Wednesday, a Farmington Hills police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on northbound Northwestern Highway and 13 Mile. The vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was terminated.

Police say a short time later, a fatal vehicle accident occurred at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield.

The male driver, identified as 36-year-old Mathew Mercado from Waterford Township, died a short time after the crash. The passenger, 24-year-old Jazmene Glynn, from Warren, was transported to a hospital and also later died from her injuries.

Police have not released what initiated the chase.

The intersection of Northwestern Highway and Orchard Lake is back open.
