A new study found that 10 of the 100 safest cities in the United States are in metro Detroit.
The study, from Alarms.org, used statistics including number of violent crimes per 100,000 residents and number of property crimes per 100,000 residents.
West Bloomfield Township was the highest-ranked city in metro Detroit, coming in at No. 9 with 77 violent crimes and 684 property crimes per 100,000 residents.
"West Bloomfield Township is located near Detroit with 66,274 residents. The land area contains about 10% water with Cass Lake being the largest lake in the area," they write. "There are many apple orchards in the area with one island aptly named Apple Island being covered with apple trees. Since the area has four distinct seasons, you will be able to enjoy West Bloomfield Township year round."
Close behind is Rochester Hills at No. 13 with 34 violent crimes and 786 property crimes per 100,000 residents.
Other cities include Shelby Township at No. 27, Royal Oak at No. 38, Farmington Hills at No. 44, Novi at No. 48, Waterford Township at No. 58, Canton Township at No. 65, St. Clair Shores at No. 81 and Sterling Heights at No. 84.
