DETROIT (WXYZ) — Eleven dogs were rescued from a suspected dog fighting operation in Detroit.

Through combined efforts of the Michigan Humane Society and Detroit police, two search warrants were executed at a property on Detroit's east side near the intersection of Conant and 7 Mile on Dec. 4.

MHS removed the 11 canines and found dog fighting paraphernalia at the location as well. Two of them were secured by 60 pounds of tow chain. The dogs are currently with MHS and being evaluated.

“Dog fighting is a more common activity than many people realize and takes place not only in urban areas, but rural as well. We’re incredibly proud to have been able to remove these dogs from this horrific situation and thankful to the community member who initially called us out of concern for these animals”, commented Andy Seltz, MHS VP of Field Services.

MHS encourages people to report suspected animal cruelty, abuse or neglect by calling 313-872-3401.
