TAYLOR (WXYZ) — A 12-year-old girl has died after an early morning crash in Taylor on Wednesday, according to city officials.
We're told the girl's aunt was driving; the pair was headed to pick up newspapers to distribute when the crash occurred. Officials say they were moving westbound on Northline when another driver going southbound on Telegraph reportedly ran a red light and crashed into their vehicle.
The aunt was taken to the hospital with injuries, and the girl was pronounced dead shortly after the crash, according to officials. They both are from Allen Park.
City officials say the driver who reportedly caused the crash was taken into custody on charges of OWI causing death.
The suspect in the deadly crash is a 20-year-old man from Taylor, and police say they've had multiple contacts with him.
Just last week, the suspect was charged with a crime involving an alleged assault, according to Taylor Police.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility that the suspect ingested drugs prior to getting on the road.
