INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The 13-year-old girl who was killed in a snowmobile accident in Independence Township has been identified as 13-year-old Alexandria Lambert.
An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy confirmed that the incident occurred on Whipple Lake Road at North Eston Road.
Police say a 55-year-old man who had been operating a 2004 Polaris 550 snowmobile was struck from behind by his 13-year-old son after his son failed to stop. The young girl, who was riding with his son, was thrown from the back of the snowmobile and was seriously injured. The son is in stable condition while the girl was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police say all riders were wearing helmets.
