When he showed up at a party Friday night, 14-year-old Nelson Poet had no idea there had been some sort of dispute that was about to erupt on the street in gunfire.

It happened around 11 p.m. on Belle Pointe Drive near Sondra Drive in Van Buren Township, where neighbors say a teenager was having a party.

We're told her parents gave the teen girl permission and were also present when the shooting happened outside their house.

Neighbors say they heard 10 to 15 shots from what they were later told was a .22 caliber gun. One of the bullets struck Poet, a talented young wrestler, in the leg.

Greg Poet tells 7 Action News that it's too dangerous for doctors to remove the bullet.

Van Buren Township Police say what is making it nearly impossible to find the shooter is the fact that no one is willing to cooperate - leaving even the motive a mystery.

All police know is that Nelson had nothing to do with any of it, but he's the only one now paying the price.

Nelson is walking, but it's unclear how it will affect his wrestling.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Van Buren Township Police;
