2 cars pull up, open fire on group outside apartment complex in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — State troopers are investigating a felonious assault at a Berlin Township apartment complex Friday.

On Aug. 23 around 8:40 p.m., Monroe Post troopers responded to the parking lot of Newport Woods Apartments on Canterberry Lane to reports of gun shots being fired.

According to a release from Michigan State Police, here's what led up to the gun fire:

Several people were talking outside of a vehicle in the Newport Woods parking lot. Two vehicles pulled up, one described as a silver Ford Focus, the other was described as a black Ford Fusion. Subjects exited one of those vehicles approached the group standing in the parking lot and fired multiple rounds from a silver colored handgun. Both the suspect and the suspect vehicles fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male in his early 20’s, about 5’9”, 180 pounds, wearing a gold T-shirt with short hair.

No one was struck or injured during the incident, police say.
