DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two children were hurt in a triple shooting overnight in Detroit. The incident was one of many shootings in a violent weekend in Detroit.

According to police, an unknown suspect approached the 9-year-old boy, 10-year-old girl and 37-year-old man while they were outside of their home on Plainview and started firing shots. The suspect then fled north.

The man and girl are listed in critical condition, police say, and the boy is in stable condition. Police say the suspect is described as a black male with thin build wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts.

Overnight Saturday, Detroit had 11 non-fatal shootings and one fatal shooting occur between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Detroit police released the list of overnight incidents Sunday afternoon. The list included one quadruple non-fatal shooting and two double non-fatal shootings.

The first shooting reported happened Saturday at 10:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of Livernois, and allegedly occurred from a verbal altercation between four women and one man in the parking lot of a local restaurant. A 37-year-old woman was injured.

The quadruple non-fatal shooting happened at 10:35 p.m. in the area of Puritan and Appolice. Police say the four victims were gathered together when an unknown vehicle approached and someone inside started firing shots.

The four victims – two woman ages 20 and 30, and two men ages 22 and 26 – were treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A fatal shooting, which happened early Sunday just after 6 a.m., occurred in the 19300 block Cameron. The victim was a 35-year-old man who was found inside of the location, police say. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. Detroit police are looking for a suspect in this case.

These shootings come just days after Detroit police officials reported that the city has had an upswing in criminal homicides and non-fatal shootings compared to what was seen around this time last year.

Last year, the city saw 99 criminal homicides. As of June 18, 2020, when these numbers were reported, there were 129 homicides, which is a 30 percent increase. The city had 266 non-fatal shootings in 2019. That has increased to 397 so far this year – a 49 percent increase.
