DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two Detroit police sergeants have been charged in a 2018 Greektown parking lot assault of a man.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the incident happened on July 22, 2018 at 2:55 p.m.
Detroit police Sgt. Raytheon Martin, 40, and Sgt. Lacell Rue, 35, allegedly had a verbal exchange with a 26-year-old Detroit man inside the Greektown parking lot. The sergeants allegedly struck the man on the back of the head and punched him multiple times while he was on the ground, although it is alleged that the Detroit man was not acting in an aggressive manner.
Sgt. Rue then tased the man twice when the victim was holding his hands up. The incident was captured on video.
Sgt. Martin was arraigned on the charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Both Sgts. Martin and Rue were charged with misconduct in office and assault and battery.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for June 13 and a preliminary exam is scheduled for June 20.
