DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two suspects are in custody after a robbery near Wayne State University.

The victim, who wasn't a student, was unloading stuff from his vehicle around 6 p.m. on Sunday on Palmer, just east of Cass. He was approached by two men, one of which had a gun. Police say they pointed the gun at the victim and demanded his property. The suspects reportedly made threatening statements to the victim, so the victim complied and handed over his keys. The suspects drove away from the scene.

A Wayne State police officer was flagged down by the victim not long after, and the officer eventually found the stolen vehicle. He attempted to pull the vehicle over, but they took off at a high rate of speed. Police say the suspect eventually lost control and crashed, with both men exiting the vehicle and running. Officers ran after them and found one of them in a fenced-in area and arrested him. A K-9 unit helped track down the second suspect.

Both suspects are in custody at the Detroit Detention Center.

The victim was able to get back everything that was stolen, including his wallet, keys and two cell phones. The car is not totaled, but there is significant damage.

Police say there were no injuries.
