(WXYZ) — Michigan State Police say three people are dead after a crash on eastbound I-94 in Detroit overnight.
According to police, troopers were dispatched to I-94 and Outer Dr. just before 2 a.m. on a report of a crash.
Investigation found a Chevy Camaro driving at a high rate of speed rear-ended a Mercury SUV that was also driving east on the highway.
A 39-year-old man was driving the Camaro with a 38-year-old woman in the passenger seat. A 61-year-old was driving the Mercury SUV when it was hit.
All three were transported to the hospital and pronounced dead. The freeway was closed for about three hours.
Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, police say.
