PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 3-year-old Pontiac girl was found home alone after her mother, who had a history of drug use, was found dead inside a house on Monday afternoon.
According to police, deputies and the Waterford Fire Department responded to the home after the victim's aunt for the woman not breathing. The aunt had tried calling the victim over the past two days but decided to check on her welfare personally.
She drove to the house and went inside, but found the 27-year-old unresponsive and called 911.
Deputies arrived and found the woman lying on the floor, "obviously deceased and beyond any help." They also found several empty aerosol cans near her body and she does have a history of drug use, the sheriff's office said.
Police also found the woman's 3-year-old daughter alone inside the home prior to the death being discovered. She appeared to be healthy but a deputy transported her to the ER as a precautionary measure.
Child Protective Services took custody of the 3-year-old after she was discharged from the hospital, but released her to her great-grandfather.
