DETROIT (WXYZ) — Four people were able to safely get out after a two- story flat caught fire on Detroit's west side.
The call came in around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning on Carter Street near Dexter and Joy road.
The victims told 7 Action News all the smoke and smoke detectors woke them up.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in the basement but say more work is needed to determine the exact cause.
The Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.
